How much liquid do you put in a pressure cooker for a roast?
I only put 1 cup of liquid when I am pressure cooking a roast in my Instant Pot. It makes its own juices and gravy while cooking. I do slice my roast into 1” slices though. I like for the flavor to be absorbed into all the meat, not just the outer edges of a (uncut) whole roast.
What should I cook with my Instant Pot 3 Packet Pork Roast
This meal goes great with rice or potatoes. Also, I know most people like to cook whole potatoes and carrots with their roast. We prefer not to. If you want to cook your potatoes and carrots with your roast, you can do a quick release 20 minutes before your roast is complete. Then add in your carrots and potatoes and continue to cook at high pressure for the final 20 minutes. This will ensure that your vegetables don’t get overcooked.
Do I have to brown my pork roast before pressure cooking?
No, you absolutely do not have to brown your meat for this recipe. We don’t brown our pork roast before pressure cooking with this recipe. Any time I can make an Instant Pot recipe simply dump and push start I do. I like to make things as simple as possible.
Ingredients – Instant Pot 3 Packet Pork Roast
- 3 lb. Pork Roast
- 1 Packet Ranch Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix (dry powder)
- 1 Packet Italian Dressing Mix (dry powder)
- 1 Packet Pork Gravy Mix (we used the packet that makes 2 cups)
- 1 Cup Chicken Broth
Instructions – Instant Pot 3 Packet Pork Roast
#1. First, slice your Pork Roast into 1” sections.
#2. Place them into the Instant Pot and add your 1 cup of chicken broth.
#3. Next, sprinkle your three packets on top of your meat.
#4. Next, close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.
#5. Then press the “Pressure Cook” button. Next, press the “Pressure Level” button until you have selected “High Pressure”.
#6. Turn the timer on for 1 ½ hours if you have a 3 lb. roast. Once pressure builds up, the timer will start counting down.
#7. Once the timer has completed let it do a natural release of pressure. Which means do not open the venting valve. It will naturally release the pressure on its own in about 20-30 minutes.
#8. After all the pressure has released you can open the Instant Pot and serve!
