This Dump and Start Instant Pot Turkey Breast Recipe is perfect for a Thanksgiving meal when you don’t need to feed a large crowd. We have tried three different turkey recipes in our Instant Pot in preparation for Thanksgiving this year. The first one was the Dump and Go Instant Pot Turkey Roast. I recommend the Dump and Go Instant Pot Turkey Roast Recipe if you need to feed a larger crowd. We cooked 2 Turkey Roasts in our 8 qt. Instant Pot at the same time. They turned out perfectly.
For the second turkey recipe, I tried to shove a whole 9 ½ lb turkey in my 8 qt. Instant Pot. There was not enough space for the turkey and the drippings. The turkey turned out more boiled than pressure cooked……so we will have to revisit that again later for improvements before posting.

In order to keep this recipe a no-hassle, dump and start recipe you will need to get your turkey breast pre-seasoned. If you don’t have a grocery store near you that does this you can look for a butterball pre-seasoned turkey breast. Butterball usually has a couple of different pre-seasoned options like butter and herb flavor or a cajun style flavor (at least in our area they do).
I chose to get a butterball turkey breast with the bone in and not pre-seasoned. My local grocery store uses a “red rub” seasoning to marinate their meat that we just love. So, we purchased a bottle of that seasoning (which is only sold in this area) and seasoned our turkey breast our self. This is the same seasoning that was on our pre-seasoned Juicy Instant Pot Chicken Breasts and Gravy. We liked the seasoning on the chicken breast so much I decided to try it on turkey!
One more thing I would like to mention is that we use a digital cooking thermometer like this. If you have any questions about what temperature something should be cooked at or reheated at you can check out FoodSafety.gov. That’s what we use.
Ingredients – Dump and Start Instant Pot Turkey Breast
- 1 Cup Chicken Broth
- 3.5 lb. Bone-In Turkey Breast
- Seasoning of Choice (or purchase a pre-seasoned turkey breast)
- 3 tbsp. Vegetable Oil (only needed if you are adding seasoning yourself)
Instructions – Dump and Start Instant Pot Turkey Breast
#1. This first step is optional. If you purchased your turkey breast pre-seasoned then you would not need to do this.
I rubbed 3 tbsp. of vegetable oil on my turkey breasts then sprinkled the “red rub” seasoning all over the turkey breasts. You would use your seasoning of choice here if you did not get a pre-seasoned turkey breast.
#2. Next, place your trivet inside of your Instant Pot and pour in your 1 cup of chicken broth. I used the trivet that came with my Instant Pot.
#3. Then place your Turkey breast on top of your trivet.
#4. Then close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.
#5. Next, press the chicken/poultry cook button. Then set your timer for 29 minutes if you have a 3.5 lb turkey breast. I used the Instant Pot cook time of 8 minutes per pound.
#6. After the timer has completed let it do a natural release of pressure for 10 minutes then turn the steam release valve to “venting” for a quick release of steam. **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.
#7. Now your turkey breast is ready to serve just as it is (See image below). But, if you want to make the outer edges and any skin a crispy dark color you can add this step.
Place your turkey breast on a pan and drizzle some of the dripping from your Instant Pot on the top of the skin. Sprinkle additional seasoning on top of the turkey breast and place it in the oven with the broiler on high for 5 minutes.
This is the turkey breast after pressure cooking. It is ready to eat, but you can also broil for 5 minutes for crispy skin.
