We use the 8 qt. Instant Pot to prepare all our meals.
We also use a digital cooking thermometer like this. If you have any questions about what temperature something should be cooked at or reheated at you can check out FoodSafety.gov. That’s what we use.
What should I cook with my Dump and Start Instant Pot 3 Packet Roast?
You can make either rice or potatoes with this meal. Either one is delicious. And don’t forget the garlic bread!
Also, you can add potatoes and carrots to this pot roast. I would not pressure cook them for the full time though. I would do a quick release of steam about 20 minutes before the timer is about to end and add them in at high pressure for the remaining time.
How much liquid do you put in a pressure cooker for a roast?
I only put about 1 cup of liquid in my Instant Pot when cooking a roast. It sort of makes its own juices when pressure cooking and gives it so much more flavor.
Do I have to brown the roast before pressure cooking it?
Nope. Most people will tell you to brown it first before pressure cooking. I like, and need, quick and easy Instant Pot meals for our busy schedule. I do not brown my roast at all. I do however slice my roast into 1-inch slices first then put them into my Instant Pot. I like for all of the meat to soak up the flavor. I pour my 1 cup of beef broth in and then sprinkle the 3 packets on top. That is it …… close it up and pressure cook. It comes out delicious even though I do not brown it first.
Ingredients – Dump and Start Instant Pot 3 Packet Roast
- 3 lb Roast (We use Top Sirloin but any roast would do.)
- 1 Packet of Ranch Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix (dry/powder)
- 1 Packet of Italian Dressing Mix (dry/powder)
- 1 Packet of Brown Gravy Mix (dry/powder)
- 1 Cup of Beef Broth
- A little Tony Chachere’s after cooking (this is optional, I just add this to everything!!!)
Instructions – Dump and Start Instant Pot 3 Packet Roast
#1. First, slice your Roast into 1” sections.
#2. Place them into the Instant Pot and add your 1 cup of beef broth.
#3. Next, sprinkle your three packets on top of your meat.
#4. Next, close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.
#5. Then press the “Pressure Cook” button. Next, press the “Pressure Level” button until you have selected “High Pressure”.
#6. Turn the timer on for 1 ½ hours. Once pressure builds up, the timer will start counting down.
#7. Once the timer has completed let it do a natural release of pressure. Which means do not open the venting valve. It will naturally release the pressure on its own in about 20-30 minutes.
#8. After all of the pressure has released you can open the Instant Pot and serve! I sprinkle a little Tony Chachere’s to my plate, to taste. This step is totally optional though.
