How long does it take to cook chicken breasts in an Instant Pot?

We use the Instant Pot cook guide that came with our 8 qt. Instant Pot to determine how long to cook our chicken breasts.  They recommend 6-8 minutes per pound of chicken breast on high pressure.  We also use a digital thermometer like this to double check that our chicken breasts have reached its maximum internal temperature before serving.  If you have any questions about what temperature something should be cooked at or reheated at you can check out FoodSafety.gov.  That’s what we use.

#4.  Next, close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.

#5.  Then press the “Pressure Cook” button.  Next, press the “Pressure Level” button until you have selected “High Pressure”.

#6.  Turn the timer on for about 30 minutes if you have 3.5 lbs. of chicken breast. We use the Instant Pot guide which states 6-8 minutes of high pressure per pound of chicken breast.  Our chicken breasts were thick so we rounded up from 28 – 30 minutes.  Once the pressure builds up, the timer will start counting down.

#7.  Once the timer has completed let it do a natural release of pressure.  Which means do not open the venting valve.  It will naturally release the pressure on its own in about 20-30 minutes.

#8.  After all the pressure has released you can open the Instant Pot and serve!

What chicken did you start with? In the pic it looks like it is seasoned. Is that why the after-pic has the chicken looking like it was in the oven?? Meaning the color. Pressure cooked chicken does not look that appetizing by itself.

My local grocery store puts a “red rub” seasoning on the chicken breast which you can see in the picture. It might add a slight red coloration. If you would like to compare we used a 3 packet recipe on pork also that DID NOT have the “red rub” seasoning on it. The color of the pork was similar also. So in my opinion the 3 different packets also give it the oven roasted look. Hope that helps!
