How long do you cook shrimp in an Instant Pot?
We cook our shrimp for 2 minutes on High Pressure. Some people only cook their shrimp for 1 minute on High Pressure. We use large shrimp that are thawed, peeled, and deveined. We have found that we like them cooked at 2 minutes but you might rather only cooking them for 1. Of course, your shrimp are also cooking while your Instant Pot is coming to pressure also before the 2-minute timer starts counting down. We also do a quick release of pressure immediately after the timer is done.
What to serve with Instant Pot Shrimp Fajitas?
We like chicken and shrimp fajitas. I made a pot of Dump and Start Instant Pot 3 Packet Chicken (which is sooo good) the night before. We sliced and heated up some of the leftover chicken and mixed it with our shrimp to make chicken and shrimp fajitas! It was so delicious.
**Quick Note- Our Dump and Start Instant Pot 3 Packet Chicken Recipe has not been published yet. Should be published within the next week.

Will my bell peppers and onions get to soggy?
With the amount of cook time required for shrimp they do not get as soggy and they do if you are cooking Instant Pot Chicken Fajitas. You have to cook chicken for 10 minutes and shrimp only require 1 or 2 minutes. Also we slice our bell peppers and onions into wider sections than you would get with fajitas you would eat at a restaurant. This keeps them more intact after the pressure cooking is completed.
Ingredients – Instant Pot Shrimp Fajitas
- 2 lbs of Shrimp (Thawed, Raw, & Peeled)
- Frontera Taco Seasoning Pack (liquid) This stuff is so good!!! (it is for ground beef but we use it on other things also) If you want to use a packet of dry fajita/taco seasoning instead you will need to add one cup of water.
- 2-3 Bell Peppers sliced into strips (Any colors)
- 1 Large Onion
- Tortillas We like this name brand flour tortilla
- Toppings of choice (optional)
- (If you like your food seasoned well you can add 1 tbsp of creole seasoning – Tony Chachere’s also, but totally optional)
Instructions – Instant Pot Shrimp Fajitas
#1. First, place your raw, peeled Shrimp into your Instant Pot. Mix with Frontera liquid taco seasoning pack. **Please note- if you prefer using a different fajita seasoning that is dry you will need to add ½ cup of water also.
If you like your food seasoned well you can add you 1 tbsp of Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning to this step… but this is totally optional.
#2. Next, place your sliced bell peppers and onion on top of your shrimp. **Please note- You will want to slice your bell peppers into wider sections than you would for regular fajitas in order to keep them from falling apart in the Instant Pot.
#3. Then close your Instant Pot lid and turn the steam release valve to the “Sealing” position.
#4. Pressure cook on high for 2 minutes.
#5. After the timer has completed turn the steam release valve to “Venting” for a quick release of steam. **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.
#6. Serve with your warm tortillas and any additional toppings you prefer. We like shredded lettuce, cheese, salsa, and sour cream!
